The Landmark London
One of London’s great five-star hotels, with a page-builder website that had become slower to change than the business it represented.
The context
The Landmark is a Grande Dame hotel in Marylebone — the Winter Garden under its glass atrium is one of the most recognisable rooms in London hospitality. We have worked with the in-house marketing team since 2019.
What was disconnected
The previous website had aged past the brand. Worse, it had become expensive to change: updates to the page-builder build were time-consuming and inflexible, which meant marketing ideas were quietly being filtered by what the website would allow.
When the cost of a change is high enough, the stack starts making the marketing decisions.
What we changed
We researched, planned, designed and built a fully bespoke website — a direct booking conversion point that represents the brand properly and gives the marketing team room to work.
Around it sits the operational layer that keeps it that way: managed hosting on WP Engine, version control, server monitoring, regular updates and backups, and custom integrations between the hospitality platforms the hotel runs on.
Which disciplines were involved
Experience on the build and the ongoing optimisation; Growth on the direct booking activity around it.
What improved
A website the in-house team can act through rather than around, and a partnership that has now run for six years of continuous refinement rather than periodic rebuilds.
What the work taught
Rebuilding every four years is a choice, not a law. It happens when nobody funds the maintenance layer — and the maintenance layer is much cheaper than the rebuild it prevents.
